Bill Gates Reveals How Much of His Wealth He Will Give to His Children

Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates has revealed significant details regarding his personal wealth distribution in a recent podcast. Speaking on “Figuring Out with Raj Shamani,” Bill Gates stated that he will not be transferring his entire fortune to his children. Instead, he emphasized that only a small portion—less than one percent—of his total wealth will be allocated to his family.
Bill Gates explained that this decision stems from his belief that his children should build their own futures independently, rather than relying on inherited wealth. "People should make their own decisions on this matter. I have provided my children with a good education and raised them with strong values. I am confident that they can earn on their own without depending on the wealth I accumulated," said Bill Gates during the podcast.
He further stated, “I will give less than one percent of what I earned to my children. This is not about inheritance. I am not going to ask them to carry forward the responsibilities of Microsoft. I want to give them the opportunity to achieve success on their own. We should not push our children into confusion under the guise of love. We must clarify the opportunities we give them and prepare them to grow independently.”
According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Bill Gates’s total net worth is approximately USD 155 billion. Based on his statement, his children would inherit only around USD 1.55 billion—about one percent of his total assets. Gates added that most of his wealth is intended for philanthropic contributions and will not be part of an inheritance transfer.
Bill Gates and his former wife, Melinda French, have three children: Rory Gates, Jennifer Gates Nassar, and Phoebe Gates. The couple ended their 27-year marriage with a divorce in 2021.
