Union Health Ministry Flags High Food Adulteration in Telangana, AP

Telangana has ranked second among southern Indian states in incidents of food adulteration, according to data presented to Parliament by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The data covered food sample testing conducted nationwide between 2021 and 2024.

The report noted that an average of 22 percent of the food samples collected across the country during the past four years were found to be adulterated. Among southern states, Tamil Nadu topped the list, with 20 percent of its food samples testing adulterated. Telangana followed with a 14 percent adulteration rate—meaning 14 out of every 100 food samples collected and tested in the state were found to be adulterated.

Kerala reported an adulteration rate of 13.11 percent, placing it third among southern states. Andhra Pradesh ranked fourth with a 9 percent rate, followed by Karnataka at 6.30 percent.

These findings were part of the detailed data on food safety inspections conducted across Indian states and submitted by the central government to the Parliament.
