PM Modi Dedicates India’s First Vertical Advanced Pamban Bridge to the Nation

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated the country’s first vertical lift railway sea bridge, the Pamban Bridge, which connects mainland India with Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu. Built with advanced engineering technologies at a cost of ₹535 crore, the bridge is located in Ramanathapuram district.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated the Pamban Bridge to the nation, highlighting its strategic importance in linking the Indian mainland with the religious and tourist destination of Rameswaram. The 2.08-kilometre-long structure allows the movement of trains on the top while enabling ships to pass beneath through its vertical lift mechanism.
The project was executed by Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL), which commenced construction in 2020 and completed it within four years. The foundation stone for the bridge was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 1, 2019.
