Two Helmets Now Mandatory with Every New Two-Wheeler: Government
Over 69,000 deaths occur annually across India due to two-wheeler road accidents, with approximately 50 percent attributed to the non-use of helmets. In response, the central government has issued a significant directive mandating helmet use for all two-wheeler riders.
As part of this initiative, Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has issued crucial instructions to two-wheeler sellers. He announced that all two-wheelers must be sold with two ISI-certified helmets without exception.
The Two Wheeler Manufacturers Association of India (THMA) has extended its full support to the minister's announcement. As a result of the new mandate, both the rider and pillion passenger will be required to wear helmets, and dealers will now provide two helmets at the time of a new bike purchase.
