Obulapuram Mining Case Trial Ends, Judgment Scheduled for May 6
The hearing in the Obulapuram mining case, which had drawn widespread attention at the time, has officially concluded. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) registered the case on December 7, 2009. The CBI special court is expected to deliver its verdict on May 6.
Gali Janardhan Reddy, B.V. Srinivas Reddy, former minister Sabitha Indra Reddy, V.D. Rajagopal, Ali Khan, and B. Krupanandam have been named as accused in the Obulapuram Mining Company (OMC) case. IAS officer Srilakshmi was also accused but the High Court dismissed the case against her in 2022.
As part of its investigation, the CBI examined 219 witnesses and reviewed 3,337 documents. The agency filed its first chargesheet in December 2011. In total, four chargesheets were submitted against nine individuals. One of the accused, Linga Reddy, passed away during the course of the trial.
