Chandrababu Takes Crucial Decision on Online Betting

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has taken a crucial decision in response to the growing menace of online betting. He announced that the state government would implement stringent measures to curb online betting activities. Chandrababu Naidu stated that a special legislation would be introduced to regulate betting, adding that the decisions taken by the government should be capable of completely eradicating online gambling.

Chandrababu Naidu remarked that although overall crime rates in the state have decreased, financial crimes have seen an increase. He noted that cannabis cultivation has also reduced. Highlighting the sophistication of criminals, he stated, “Criminals are often intelligent and manage to erase evidence.” He added that some offenders flee while others try to shift the blame onto others, citing the Y. S. Vivekananda Reddy murder case as an example of such tactics.

Emphasising the importance of advanced technology in policing, Chandrababu Naidu advised the police to make use of technological tools to combat crime. He stressed the need for meticulous collection of forensic evidence and advised caution in handling cases related to Maoist activities. He further said that public cooperation is essential for effective crime control.

In the broader context, the state has witnessed a surge in online betting, which is allegedly contributing to financial ruin and even suicides among affected individuals. The growing influence of online betting applications—promoted by film actors, YouTubers, and athletes—has led to a significant rise in addiction among the public. Several celebrities who promoted these apps are reportedly facing legal cases.
