Delimitation Will Increase Seats in Southern States as Well: Rajnath Singh
Union Minister Rajnath Singh stated that the argument that delimitation would be unfair to southern states is unfounded. He emphasized that the number of parliamentary seats in states like Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Kerala would also increase as part of the process.
His remarks come in response to concerns raised by the governments of Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and Kerala, which have expressed apprehensions that delimitation could disadvantage southern states. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has particularly voiced concerns that his state's representation in Parliament might be reduced.
Addressing these concerns, Rajnath Singh asserted that the delimitation process is being conducted systematically. He added that if there are any objections, Stalin has the right to raise them, and relevant authorities will hold discussions to ensure a fair decision. He further stated that it is natural for the number of seats to increase following a delimitation exercise, whether in legislative assemblies or in the Lok Sabha.
