CBI Registers Case Against Kannada Actress Ranya Rao
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a case against Kannada actress Ranya Rao (34) in connection with gold smuggling. Ranya Rao was recently caught at Bengaluru airport while illegally transporting gold from Dubai. Despite allegedly attempting to use the name of her stepfather, senior IPS officer and current Director General of the Police Housing Corporation, Dr. K. Ramachandra Rao, to evade legal action, she was unsuccessful.

Officials from the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized 14 kilograms of gold from her possession and registered a case. During their investigation, the DRI found that she had been frequently traveling between Dubai and India, allegedly engaging in gold smuggling. In light of these findings, the CBI registered a case against her on Saturday and is expected to question her soon.

The DRI has already seized valuables worth ₹17.56 crore from Ranya Rao, including gold biscuits, jewelry worth ₹2.06 crore, and ₹2.67 crore in cash. With permission from the Special Court for Economic Offenses, authorities have confiscated her laptops and mobile phones, which have been sent for forensic analysis.

Currently, the DRI is interrogating Ranya Rao while she remains in their custody. Once their questioning concludes, the CBI is expected to take her into custody for further investigation. Reports indicate that based on her call records, the CBI has also initiated inquiries in Delhi and Mumbai.
