Champions Trophy: England Collapses for 179 Runs in Final League Match
England, already eliminated from the Champions Trophy, played its final league match today against South Africa in Karachi, Pakistan. Winning the toss, England elected to bat first but struggled against the South African bowling attack, getting bowled out for just 179 runs in 38.2 overs.
Senior batsman Joe Root was the top scorer for England with 37 runs. Jofra Archer added 25 runs towards the end, helping England reach a modest total. Among the other batsmen, opener Ben Duckett scored 24, captain Jos Buttler made 21, and Harry Brook contributed 19 runs. However, England’s innings saw two ducks, with opener Phil Salt and wicketkeeper-batsman Jamie Smith getting dismissed without scoring.
For South Africa, Marco Jansen and Wiaan Mulder took three wickets each, while Keshav Maharaj picked up two. Lungi Ngidi and Kagiso Rabada claimed one wicket apiece.
