AP Police Officers’ Association Condemns Jagan’s Remarks, Demands Retraction
The Andhra Pradesh Police Officers’ Association has strongly condemned YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) chief Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s recent remarks against the police. The association has demanded that he retract his statements, asserting that they are offensive and intimidating to law enforcement personnel.
Jagan made the controversial comments while speaking to the media after visiting Vallabhaneni Vamsi at the Vijayawada jail. He alleged that law and order in the state had deteriorated and criticized the police, claiming that his party would return to power. He further stated that even if some officers retire, they would be brought back and publicly humiliated.
Reacting sharply, the AP Police Officers’ Association condemned Jagan’s remarks, stating that it was inappropriate to make such statements for political gains. The association’s leaders pointed out that the same police personnel who are currently serving had also worked under the previous government eight months ago. They advised Jagan to recognize this fact.
The association questioned whether it was justifiable to threaten retired officers with public humiliation. They asserted that Jagan’s statements were both offensive and intimidating to the police force.
Association president J. Srinivasa Rao criticized Jagan, urging him to stop making threats. He stated that it would be respectful for Jagan to withdraw his comments. "We salute only the four pillars of law, justice, truth, and righteousness. We do not salute those who do not respect democracy and the rule of law," Srinivasa Rao emphasized. He also reminded Jagan that police officers perform their duties impartially, beyond political considerations.
Srinivasa Rao further accused Jagan of lacking respect for laws and democracy, as evidenced by his statements. He called it unfortunate that someone who had served as Chief Minister for five years would make such remarks. He questioned what message such statements send about democracy and how subordinates would interpret them.
Reiterating their demand, Srinivasa Rao made it clear that the AP Police Officers’ Association insists that Jagan must withdraw his comments.
