State Division Was Unavoidable, Even with Y.S.R.: Kiran Kumar Reddy

Former Chief Minister of united Andhra Pradesh, N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, has made a sensational revelation regarding the 2014 bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh. He stated that many believe the division of the state would not have occurred had the late Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy been alive. However, Kiran Kumar Reddy disclosed that the Congress high command had contemplated passing a resolution in favor of Telangana during Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy's tenure itself.

According to Kiran Kumar Reddy, the bifurcation, which took place in 2014, was originally intended to occur in 2009. While serving as Chief Whip, he was called by Rajasekhara Reddy, who suggested introducing a resolution in the Assembly supporting the formation of Telangana. Kiran Kumar Reddy recounted advising the then-Chief Minister against this move, warning that it might lead to electoral losses. In response, Rajasekhara Reddy reportedly said, "There is nothing in my hands; Pranab Mukherjee has instructed us to move forward with the division."

Kiran Kumar Reddy further revealed that after consulting Pranab Mukherjee, the proposed resolution was altered to state that the government was "not against Telangana" instead of explicitly supporting its formation. This adjustment, according to Kiran Kumar Reddy, was made under the assumption that the bifurcation would not proceed. However, the eventual division of the state was an outcome he described as unfortunate.

Concluding his statements, Kiran Kumar Reddy asserted that even if Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy had been alive, the state bifurcation would not have been halted, contrary to popular belief.
