Hyderabad High Court Reviews FTL Determination of City’s Lakes

The Telangana High Court on Thursday conducted a hearing on the determination of Full Tank Level (FTL) boundaries for lakes in Hyderabad. The review focused on issues of encroachment and the demarcation process for 3,532 lakes under the jurisdiction of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA).

Government representatives presented arguments regarding the FTL notifications issued by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority. They informed the court that final notifications had been issued for over 700 lakes thus far, and the process of notifying the remaining lakes is ongoing.

The High Court initiated a suo motu inquiry into the matter, expressing concern over the status of lake encroachments and FTL demarcations. After hearing the arguments presented by the government’s legal counsel, the court adjourned the case for further proceedings to next month.
