WB sanctions $114m to Vizag for underground power cabling project
Hyderabad, Jan 30: In a major boost to Andhra Pradesh government's project to replace overhead power supply cables in Visakhapatnam city with underground cable network, the World Bank (WB) is believed to have sanctioned $114 million.
In the aftermath of Hudhud cyclone, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is believed to have proposed the underground power cabling project in order to convert Visakhapatnam into a smart and cyclone-resistant city.
Stating that the work on the project will start in the next few months, AP's energy secretary Ajay Jain said, "The World Bank has agreed to sanction $114 million to the state for the project."
Earlier, the state government is believed to have forwarded the project to the central government, which is expected to approve it after examining a detailed project report (DPR).
