Crater formed in Ananta district, people in grip of fear
Anantapuram, Jan 30, 2015: A big crater, with a radius of more than 30 feet and a depth of 60 feet, that has suddenly developed with a deafening sound on the banks of Chitravati River near Laksham Pally in Putluru Mandalam of Anantapuram district has sent shock waves across the nearby villages.
The villagers heard a big sound around 1 AM last night but were not in the know of things as to what exactly happened. When the day dawned, they were stunned to see a a big cavity near the village.
What is worrying is the fact the crater has been gradually increasing in diameter and depth sending shivers down the spine of villagers.
The villagers have called up police who in turn have called up geologists from Anantapuram and Bangalore.
According to latest reports, a team of geologists is examining the crater that has emerged from nowhere. Meanwhile, people in good numbers are visiting the area to see the crater and take photographs.
