Tirupati by-poll: Congress gives a hand, fields candidate

Hyderabad: In a major blow to Telugu Desam party, the Congress party has named its candidate for the Tirupati assembly by-election. Telugu Desam Party (TDP) candidate in the Tirupati assembly by-election Sugunamma, who hoped for unanimous election, will now be facing a Congress candidate in the poll. The seat had fallen vacant after the death of TDP legislator M Venkataramana. TDP fielded his widow Sugunamma and urged all the parties not to field a candidate in respect to late Venkataramana, sources said. Earlier, YSR Congress Party had announced that it will not field a candidate for the by-poll.
