Police rescue 200 child labourers in Hyderabad
Hyderabad, Jan 24: Police in Hyderabad rescued at least 200 child labourers in the old city locality of Aman Nagar during a raid on Saturday morning.
Agents are reported to have brought the children, aged between 4-12 years, from states like Bihar and Uttar Pradesh after paying Rs 20,000 to their parents, police said.
According to police, the children were reportedly being used for hazardous works including bangle-making.
With the result, the children were being constantly exposed to chemicals, police said and added that they were being forced to work for long hours of up to 14 hours in a day.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (South Zone), V. Satyanarayan said they were surprised to see 30 children crammed in one room that were unhygienic condition.
In this connection, police arrested four persons. Some other offenders are absconding.
Police shifted the rescued children to a nearby function hall before moving them to a children’s home.
