Chandrababu writes to Centre seeking grant to pay Jan salaries

Hyderabad, Jan 21, 2015: AP Government has written to the Centre expressing its inability to pay salaries for its employees for this month. Saying that it has only Rs.1200 Cr in its coffers, the government has sought an immediate grant of Rs.2500 Cr from the Centre to pay January salaries for its 5.5 lakh employees. Out of the Rs.1200 balance in its coffers, the government said Rs. 1000 Cr will be utilised for running the administration and the rest will have to be paid towards the purchase of Chandranna gift packages distributed to people for Sankranti. It may be recalled that Chandrababu had announced a few days ago in Delhi that Government was not in a position to pay the salaries for its employees. He said even the last month's salaries were paid keeping aside several of its important programs.
