TS imposes VAT, petrol & diesel prices up Rs 2
Hyderabad, Jan 17: While the rest of the country was enjoying a status quo in petrol and diesel prices, Telangana consumers will have to pay Rs 2 more with immediate effect. The Telangana government on Saturday imposed a Rs 2 per liter of petrol and diesel Value Added Tax with immediate effect. It may be recalled that due to fall in global prices of crude oil, the state-run oil majors in India reduced the prices of petrol and diesel by over Rs 2 per liter. However, the central government immediately increased the excise duty on the two petroleum products by Rs 2 per liter. And today the Telangana government imposed a fresh increase of Rs 2 VAT on fuel with immediate effect. In the process, the consumer is being denied the benefit of low global price of crude oil.
