Gas leak at Brandix SEZ in Anakapalli, over 100 admitted to hospital

Anakapalli, June 3: More than 100 women workers working in Quantum Seeds fell unconscious on Friday afternoon after inhaling ammonia gas leaked from the Porus Laboratories located at Brandix SEZ in Atchutapuram, Anakapalli district. Immediately, they were shifted to nearby private hospitals in 108 ambulances and buses.
 
According to reports, release of excessive ammonia from Porus Labs was the reason for the incident. Health condition of four women workers stated to be critical. Even, people residing in villages close to Brandix SEZ also experienced dizziness and vomiting after inhaling Ammonia gas. They were also shifted to government hospitals. 
 
The Pollution Control Board (PCB) authorities reached the spot and stopped gas leak from Porus. As per PCB guidelines, companies dealing with gases should release them either in the night or early morning. Three years ago, 11 people died and over 350 admitted to hospitals following a gas leak from LG Polymers, a chemical plant near Visakhapatnam.
