Permission to import chicken legs from US will hit TS poultry industry: KCR
Hyderabad, Nov 26: Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao here on Wednesday said that some businessmen were trying to get permissions from the central government to import chicken legs from the United States of America. He said this will endanger the Indian poultry industry. If the central government gives them the permits, the poultry industry in India will adversely suffer, he said at the two-day 8th Annual Poultry Exhibition that began on Wednesday. Poultry is a major industry in India. If the US traders want, Telangana can export the chicken parts from here. "I heard that they consume only wing portion of the chicken. We are ready to export wings to US from India," he said. "I request the Centre's intervention in this regard and accord industry status to the poultry sector," he added. The chief minister said his government has accorded agricultural industry status to poultry units in the state. He, therefore, requested the centre to take up a similar measure.
