After 23-year wait WAIT NIZAMABAD-PEDDAPALLY rail line becomes a reality
Hyderabad, March 25: The 23-year long wait of the people of Nizamabad and Karimnagar districts for a new railway line came to an end on Saturday when the Peddapally-Nizamabad Railway Line was inaugurated by Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu by remote control at a colorful function held at Hi-Tech City Railway Station.
After the Railway Minister inaugurated the 180-km long new railway line at the Hi-Tech City Railway Station with the help of a video link, the State Agriculture Minister Pocharam Srinivas Reddy flagged off the train at Nizamabad Railway Station. The new railway line would become nerve centre on the railway map connecting all key railway stations besides it would also help reduce the train time between Maharashtra and New Delhi.
Except on Tuesdays and Thursdays, the train between Nizamabad and Peddapally, having in all 13 stations between them, would run all the other days in the week. During the two days, the train does not run, it would be berthed at Nizamabad station. Suresh Prabhu, after inaugurating the new railway and also various other infra development works, including the railway doubling works between Secunderabad and Mahbubnagar observed that the new railway line, which has been pending for decades, has at last been commissioned fulfilling the aspirations of the people of Nizamabad and Karimnagar districts. Reminding that the Railways are the assets of the country, Suresh Prabhu said the Railways could take up more projects for which the support and cooperation of the State government was essential.
The Railway Minister also said as many as 10 railway stations, including Secunderabad, Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Tirupati and Aurangabad are now digital-payment enabled (DigiPAY). He also said a water treatment plant for three lakh liters water has been installed at the Nampally Railway Station.
Speaking on the occasion, Nizamabad MP Kalvakuntla Kavitha pointed out that the newly inaugurated railway line was in fact thought of in the year 1932. Even during the undivided Andhra Pradesh, the project could not take off. But after the new State of Telangana was formed, the TRS Government relentlessly pursued the matter and make it a reality.
Union Minister Bandaru Dattaraya, TRS MP Jitender Reddy, Advisor to the Government D. Srinivas and many senior leaders and officials were present on the occasion. It is pertinent to note here that then Prime Minister P V. Narasimha Rao had laid the foundation for the new railway line in 1994 and it took nearly 23 years for completion with an estimated expenditure of Rs 400 crore.
