'Annapurna'  subsidized meals in more centres soon in Hyderabad

Hyderabad, March.16: As many as 150 Food Courts providing meals to the poor and needy at a nominal price of Rs.5 would be started in the GHMC limits shortly.

Stating this in the State Assembly on Thursday, Minister for Municipal Administration K. T. Rama Rao pointed out that 109 such Food Courts are already functioning in the city. These Food Courts called “ Annapoorna” would be increased to 150 shortly, he added.

KTR said that the TRS Government committed to ensure sumptuous meals to the poor at an affordable price and hence the Food  Courts to provide meals at for Rs.5 was started by the GHMC which has received wide appreciation from all quarters. Even the Opposition leader K. Jana Reddy has hailed the GHMC in this regard, he observed.

The Minister further said that this subsidised meals being supplied by the GHMC was being utilized by thousands of poor for which the state government was spending Rs.15 crores annually. Steps are being taken to ensure that these Annapoorna Food Courts to supply subsidised meals would be started near hospitals and also in labour colonies. Steps are also being taken to see that drinking water is also provided at these places, he added.
