HC Sets Aside NGT Stay On Palamuru-Rangareddy LI Project

Hyderabad: Giving relief to the Telangana State government, the High Court today set aside the stay imposed by the National Green Tribunal (NGT) on Palamuru-Rangaredy Lift Irrigation Project.

The state government counsel argued that the NGT imposed stay without hearing the version of the Telangana State government on Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Project. It also revealed that the NGT imposed stay up to January 17 on the Project against the primary legal rules. The Telangana State advocate general argued that the High Court has to vacate the stay dismissing the NGT’s directions.

The advocate-general also recalled that the High Court refused to take up hearing on BJP leader Dr Nagam Janardhan Reddy’s petition in this regard. He also informed the Court that the petition was filed with political motives and explained on behalf of High Court that the project was aimed to provide water to the people of 1131 villages. The Advocate general also made it clear to the Court that the state government would only use the project water to the needs of drinking water. The government also informed the Court that it will not construct the project in Amrabad reserve forest area. Considering the State government’s plea, the High Court dismissed the NGT’s directions.
