Owaisi demands speedy probe into boy's murder

Hyderabad, Nov 4: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) president Asaduddin Owaisi Monday night demanded that Hyderabad police should speed up its probe into the murder of the 11-year-old boy in the Mehdipatnam Army garrison here. Owaisi urged the Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed by Hyderabad police to bring the guilty to book. The member of parliament from Hyderabad said justice can't be done by merely paying compensation to the boy's family. Referring to the suicide by a jawan Appala Raju, who was being quizzed by the SIT in the case, Owaisi said the reasons for the jawan's suicide were not known. He demanded SIT to speed up the probe and to make its findings public as to who is responsible for the crime. He said the guilty should be sent to jail. Owaisi made these comments while addressing a public meeting at First Lancer here Monday night in memory of the martyrdom of Imam Hussein. The 32-year-old lance naik Appala Raju, who is alleged to be the prime suspect in the boy's murder, committed suicide early Monday by shooting himself in the garrison. Army authorities said the lance naik was probably under mental stress due to interrogation. They, however, said the suicide is not an indication that he was involved in the incident.
