Your Aadhaar Card Is Your Debit Card
Government of India working extensively on incentivising cashless transactions by disincentivising cash transactions. It has been taking series of measures in order to shift the public towards cashless transactions across the country. From now Aadhaar cardholders can use their cards to debit or credit money. To avail this service, Aadhaar cardholders need to enter their Aadhaar number and go through a iris scanner or fingerprint verification for an electronic transaction. Ajay Bhushan Pandey, CEO of UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) told that the bio-metric authentication ability of Aadhaar will be enhanced from the present 10 crore to 40 crore a day. He also assured that all Aadhaar related transactions will be handled with top most privacy. Aadhaar can be linked with AEPS(Aadhaar Enabled Payment System) and bank accounts can be used for balance enquiry, funds transfer, credits, funds transfer etc. Amitabh Kant, NITI Aayog CEO announced that soon an Android mobile app will be launched to enable cashless transactions for all the Aadhaar cardholders. With in 15 days the proposed app will be available which allow mobile phones with in-built or external fingerprint and retina scanners to facilitate the transactions. Amitabh Kant told that Cell-phone manufacturers will be asked to see if cell phones made in India should have in-built thumb and iris identification system.
