Government not to disclose committee report on Rohith Vemula suicide

Justice (retired) Ashok Kumar Roopanwalcommission submitted its report on the suicide of dubbed dalit student Rohith Vemula that rocked the entire nation. Recent media reports claimed some insights of the report conclusions. The media claimed that the report attributes such as Rohith Vemula’s suicide for personal reasons. It also claimed that the central ministers also absolved of any blame in suicide. The government did not want to disclose commission findings. Recent RTI query seeking the detailed report met with a negative response from the government. “The file concerned is under submission. Therefore, copy of report cannot be provided at this point of time,” Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry said in reply to the RTI query filed by PTI. While quoting the same, it didn’t refer any provision under which it doesn’t want to disclose information. As per RTI act, government should mention relevant provision of the RTI Act under which the information is being withheld.
