Lord rides on Chinna Sesha Vahanam on second day
Tirumala, Oct.4: On the second day of Brahmotsavams here today, processional deity of Lord Sri Malayappa Swamy all alone rode on the five-hooded serpent king Vasuki.
According to Hindu mythology, the divine snake king is associated with both Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva. During Samudra Madhanam, gods and demons used Vasuki as rope and Mandhara mountain as an axle for churning milk in the ocean to obtain Amritam under instructions of Lord Vishnu.
Another story is that during Samudra Madhanam, Lord Shiva stretched His hands and Vasuki became His wrist garment and He carried it to churn the milky ocean. Vasuki is considered as the King of Nagas. By taking a ride on this vehicle, the Lord enlightens pilgrims.
