Water Row Should Be Solved Amicably: Gali
Hyderabad, Sept.20: Senior TDP leader Muddu Krishnama Naidu today alleged that the Telangana government has adopted an adamant attitude in sharing of water. Speaking to the media here, he said it was better to resolve the issue amicably. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu had invited his Telangana counterpart K Chandrasekhar Rao to Amaravati with an intention to promote give-and-take policy. “We have seen the latest situation in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu States on sharing of water. Instead of adopting a stubborn attitude, we should resolve it amicably,” Muddukrishnam Naidu suggested. The TDP leader said the Bachawat Tribunal and in AP Reorganization Act of 2014, there was clarity on water allocation and projects. According to bifurcation Act in schedule II, AP has full right on the surplus water. The Bachawat Tribunal has allocated 512 tmc water to AP and 299 tmc of water to Telangana, he said. In the AP Bifurcation Act, it was mentioned that there were only six pending irrigation projects. If Telangana wanted to construct any new project, it has to take permission from the Apex Council, Krishna Water Board, and CWC, the TDP leader said, adding that both Congress CMs late YSR and Kiran Kumar Reddy had given orders to conduct a survey on Dindi, Palmuru-Rangareddy projects, but not given any permission. “Telangana has no right even to use a drop of water of 45 tmc of Polavaram project. The TRS government should withdraw the Dindi and Palmuru-Rangareddy projects. There should be no lifts between Srisailam and Jurala projects. There was a loss to Handriniva, Galerunagari and Velukonda projects following utilization of water by Telangana government for power production”, he said. He also questioned as to why Dindi and Palmuru-Rangareddy projects were not included in the AP Reorganization Act if these were permitted. Muddukrishnam Naidu urged the government not to be inflexible in resolving the water issues.
