Vajpayee invites, Modi dumps Navjot Sidhu

Former Star batsman Navjot Singh Sighu recalled that while former Prime Minister AB Vajpayee had invited him to join the BJP, the present Prime Minister Narendra Modi had sunk his political future. The present party leadership had repeatedly told him to `leave Punjab.' But how could he leave either Amritsar or Punjab? Sidhu wondered at a media meet on Monday. Sidhu recalled he was invited to the party with just 14 days to go for the 2004 general elections. He was the only candidate to win the election for the BJP in North India. After Sidhu spoke, AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal, whose party was pursuing Sidhu, tweeted, If Sidhu goes to Punjab, he would tackle narcotics problem. The BJP is trying to prevent him from doing so. (BJP top leadership told Sidhu to leave Punjab three to four times). `This is shocking.'
