Nehru Outer Ring Road comes to full use, says KTR
Adding another feather to Hyderabad's cap, Nehru Outer Ring Road on Friday came into complete use for the public. Inaugurating the road facility at Shamirpet-Ghatkesar area here, MAUD Minister KT Rama Rao said the 158-km-long ORR is a jewel-studded necklace to the pearl city of Hyderabad. A total of Rs 5,304 crore was spent for the outer ring road, including 71.3 km stretch built by using JAICA funds, the minister said and claimed that 99 per cent of the road came for the public use. The ORR, he said, comprises 316 km service road and construction of 71 km service road would be completed by 2017. Plans are afoot to embellish Gatchibowli and Shamirpet stretch with LED facility spending Rs 30 crore and establishing 13 growth corridors and satellite townships along the ORR he stated. The minister said a plan was on the cards to construct more number of regional ring roads to a stretch of 292 km to ease traffic snarls and improving connectivity in the twin cities. Appreciating the officials concerned for taking up green drive along the ORR stretch, KTR said 10 crore saplings will be planted under HMDA purview. Transport Minister P Mahender Reddy, Excise Minister Padma Rao Goud, GHMC Mayor Bonthu Rammohan and officials were present.
