Godavari waters to reach Ibrahimpatnam Friday evening
The Godavari-Krishna confluence is expected to happen at Ibrahimpatnam by Friday evening. Prayers have been arranged to mark the occasion by Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and Irrigaion Minister Devineni Uma and others. The confluence could not take place although four pumps were opened on July 6 by the Chief Minister. It is expected to happen because more pumps have now been used this time, and after a week all the 24 pumps will be in operation. The Godavari waters flowed up to the Krishna district boundary on Thursday. In all, 8500 cusecs water is expected to be released into the Krishna by the exercise. Pattiseema forms part of Polavaram. Pattiseema constitutes the right canal of the Polavaram project, when the latter project is taken up. The left canal will supply waters to East Godavari and Visakhapatnam districts. Pattiseema will supply waters to the Krishna delta region. Polavaram itself is part of the interlinking of the rivers in the country. It forms part of the Mahanadi-Godavari-Krishna-Pennar-Cauvery-Vaigai river interlinking project branch.
