High court hails TV channels for clarifying cops overaction

The Madras High Court hailed the electronic media for telecasting a family quarrel followed by police lathi charge on the family, all over a domestic dispute. An auto-driver Raja, his wife Usha and son Surya went to a gold shop to buy ornaments at Tekawadia in Tiruvannamalai district. Man and wife had a tiff over the purchase and quarreled. They came out of the gold shop and continued the quarrel. The police intervened and told them not to make a scene on the road. The couple said it was a family matter and the police had no business to interfere. The police took it as an offence and beat up the family, black and blue. Somebody captured it on his smartphone and gave it to the electronic media, which aired the whole thing. Seeing the pure family quarrel, the extended family protested against the police highhandedness. They wanted the interloping policemen to be suspended. Then the family moved the Chennai High Court demanding action on the erring policemen. The High Court hailed the media for clarifying the case against the police. It directed the authorities to send the unfortunate family for better medical treatment in Chennai.
