Shani temple panel opposes take over by Kanakadurga temple

The bid to take over the Shani temple in Vijayawada by the famed KanakaDurga temple in the city was thwarted by devotees on Saturday. Durga temple Executive Officer Suryakumari arrived at the Saneeswara temple when the devotees got into a hot debate with her. They forced her to retreat without initiating the take-over proceedings. The take-over issue is pending in the AP High Court at present. In the circumstances, the devotees and Saneeshwara Temple Committee put up a stiff resitance today. They told the Durga Temple EO that at present there was a stay on the proceedings and hence she cannot initiate any takeover. As a result, Suryakumari had to beat a retreat. Old temples in Vijayawada have been in the news because of the demolition of some temples for road widening etc in the name of development. After people put up strong resistance, the government had agreed to rebuild the old temples in the same place.
