Congress leadership puts focus back on Telugu States

Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday decided to take up violations of the Forest Act and Land Acquisition Act on his overnight return from foreign holiday. His focus would be on the violations in the Telugu States. The six-month agitation plan for Rahul was decided at a high-level meeting attended by party president Sonia Gandhi, Ghulam Nabi Azad and few others at 10 Janpath for over 3 hours. While the land acquisition issue is important enough, how would it help Rahul in his leadership role? In any case, it is the considered view of the Congress. There are also violations of the Acts not only in the Telugu States but also Chattisgarh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Jharkhand and Gujarat. The Congress is apparently preparing Rahul for the agitation in these States so that after 6 months, it would be time for the UP elections, when the party vice-president is expected to jump headlong into the fray. The focus of the Congress on the Telugu States is because it is this region that helped the Congress to thrive in the country. But, for splitting the combined AP, the party got its just deserts from both the people already. Now for the Congress to put the focus back on the Telugu States in the form of the inconvenient land acquisition at the time of crises, it is not known how the people will take to the party.
