KCR urges Central funds for lake revival & backward districts

Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has urged the Centre for a financial assistance of Rs 5,000 crore for the implementation of Mission Kakatiya – a flagship program for the revival of lakes, water bodies and ponds in the State. The Chief Minister also urged the Centre to give necessary funding for developing backward districts in the new State of Telangana. In a letter addressed to Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, KCR reminded that the NITI Ayog had recommended aid of Rs 5000 Cr by the Centre for the lakes revival programme for next three years in Telangana. The aim of the programme by the State is similar to that of the schemes of conservation of waters and to increase ground water table by the Union Water Resources Ministry across the nation, KCR stated. He also urged the Centre to extend help for the backward districts as per the AP Reorganization Act. He had already sought Rs 30,571-cr Central assistance for the Mission Bhagiratha for providing drinking water to villagers and lakes revival under Mission Kakatiya which is being lauded by many States.
