Traffic police to wear eye-worn cameras in Cyberabad

Following the introduction of body-worn cameras for Traffic officers two years ago, the City Police introduced ‘7 Eye-worn cameras’ for its officers. These cameras are worn as goggles and are fixed to the right of the frame and have the advantage of capturing pictures as they are seen by the eye of the Traffic Police officer. This is the first time any police force is using eye-worn cameras in duty. They are sturdy and have recording facility for both audio & video. With a 32 GB internal memory, these cameras can record up to 21 Hours continuously. According to a Police department press note, additionally 75 Body Worn Cameras have been procured by the Cyberabad Police to be used by enforcement officers while working to capture the interaction with the public. The footage is also recorded and fed into the PS computers every day. This will supplement the existing Video and digital Cameras. This Camera is worn on the body and will prevent allegations of bad or suspicious behaviour on the part of the Police Officers, apart from keeping a watch on conduct of the violators. Traffic Police in their line of duty are constantly exposed to the elements of weather as well as pollution. While the duty is such that not much option is there to modify the working environment, effort is being made to mitigate the effect as far as possible by issuing kits containing the following: a) SHOE b) WATER BOTTLE c) SUN GLASS d) NOSE MASK e) REFLECTIVE JACKET and f) RAIN COAT. This will help the nearly 1000 personnel discharge their duty better at the same time offering some relief from the exposure to the sun.
