Telangana handloom weavers to take out bus yatra to show their plight

Telangana Chenetha Akhila Paksha Aikya Vedika (Handloom weavers’ All Party JAC) is organizing a State-wide ‘Chenetha Bus Yatra’, starting from June 23, to highlight the miseries being faced by the handloom weavers in the State. Announcing this at a media conference in Hyderabad on Saturday, Kurapati Ramesh, State Convenor, G Jagannatham, former Chairman of APCO, T Venkatramulu, General Secretary, Telangana Chenetha Karmika Sangham, and others deplored that the State Government had totally neglected the handloom weavers who were facing many problems such as lack of income, debts, starvation, and committing suicide. The Government was not taking note of the plight of the weavers and the representatives of the JAC were not even given appointment to explain the situation to the ministers. The condition of handloom sector is deteriorating day by day in the State and the Government had not allocated any funds to it. The Bus Yatra is meant to focus on the miseries of the weavers and their families, they said. The yatra would start at Rajoli in Mahbubnagar district on June 23 and conclude at Pochampally on July 1.
