Massive plantation drive in Hyderabad on July 11

Hyderabad June 7: On the occasion of World Population Day, a massive plantation program will be taken up in the city on July 11. As many as 25 lakhs of saplings will be planted in the 425 units of twin cities including Hyderabad, Secunderabad and outskirts which will help spreading greenery to fight pollution and attract rains. This was stated by Animal Husbandry and Cinematography Minister, Talasani Srinivas Yadav after a review on Haritaharam along with Deputy Chief Minister Mahamood Ali and Mayor B Rammohan at a media conference at Secretariat here. The Government has taken a decision in this regard by involving 87 departments, public, private organizations, GHMC, HMDA and others. Every citizen should participate in the greenery program and get a sapling free of cost at 27 centers in the twin cities, he said. Srinivas Yadav parried repeated media queries on JAC Chairman Kodandaram’s reported comments against Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao. Instead he asked to give wide publicity for the greenery event next month. He also exuded confidence that the Haritaharam will be a grand success by active cooperation of people and media on a whole. Narsimha Reddy said that Gandipet lake used to draw herbs and medicinal plants from Ananthagiri hills in Vikarabad and people who consumed its water used to get rid of diseases. Now that the pollution levels in the city increased manifold and efforts are on to address the perennial problem, he added. Mahamood Ali also asked the people to plant saplings on July to fight pollution.
