KVP writes to Chandrababu to rise above party lines to get Special Category Status

If not like his illustrious friend, the late YS Rajasekhara Reddy, Elder KVP Ramachandra Rao has become somewhat of a hero by putting up a Private Member's Bill in the Rajya Sabha seeking the constitutionally Promised Special Category Status for Andhra Pradesh. The BJP-led government tried to stall the Bill at the entry stage itself by trying to dismiss it on specious grounds, but the KVP Bill stuck to the Upper House on account of lack of quorum to decide it. Regardless of its ambivalence on the Bill, considering KVP is no great shakes in the dynasty-ridden Congress, the lack of quorum after the lunch hour in the Upper House has come as a boon for KVP to keep the Bill alive despite the adjournment sine die of the House. The lack of quorum showed the disinterest of the Congress Elders in the House, including the former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who was instrumental in passing the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Bill with much fanfare amid din and disturbance, promising SCS to AP. The KVP bill being active, the ruling TDP in Andhra Pradesh is now forced to show its sincerity as regards the Private Member's Bill, regardless of the fact that it was moved by a Congress member. So KVP on Wednesday threw a challenge to Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu to empower the Bill in the Rajya Sabha by the TDP members so the State could get its promised due in the form of Special Category Status. KVP urged Chandrababu Naidu to show his political skills to get the SCS through his Bill in Parliament. KVP said in a letter on Wednesday addressed to the Chief Minister that all parties should rise above party politics and alliance politics to pass his SCS Bill through Parliament afresh, when it comes up for discussion in the Upper House. C.M. Ramesh, TDP MP, already impressed the Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, Kurien, with his impromptu speech on the SCS in the House. The other TDP members should follow it up now by getting the Bill passed.
