47 caught for drunken-driving in city early Saturday
Even as the week-end began for some, 17 people were booked for drunken driving in the elite Road No 12 Banjara Hills on Saturday morning. Fifteen cars and seven motorbikes belonging to the drunken drivers were seized.
At another location at Kukatpalli, 15 people were taken into custody for drunken driving. Among the vehicles seized were 13 motorbikes, one car and a trolley, revealing that a cross-section of people were having a hangover.
At hitech Madhapur circle, another 15 were taken into custody for the same offence. All the offenders would be presented before the court, the police said.
The police are seeking the government's permission for denying police verification in case of foreign visas and government jobs for youth caught in drunken driving. The police have collected statistics in the last 5 years to project that the 18-30 age group constituted nearly half of the drunken-driving menace.
