Shringeri Swami appeals for Philosopher's Day to honour Adi Sankara

The Shringeri Peetham, one of the four Holy Seats set up in four sides of the country, has appealed for the declaration of Adi Sankara Jayanti as National Philosophers Day. The demand was endorsed by the other three Holy Seats. Sri Bharatiteerdha Saraswati, of Shringeri, had made the appeal to the Centre. The demand was also made by Sripeetham founder, Swami Paripurananda, who went to Delhi to voice the demand. Swami Paripurananda would be participating in a programme organised in connection with the Sankara Jayanti at India Gate later on Wednesday. Sankara, an eighth Century Saint, was a philosopher par excellence, who propounded the Advaita philosophy of non-duality. He, more than the Emperors and kings, the Mughals and the British, had united India by siting the four Sankaracharya peethams, thereby uniting the people, which still stand today.
