Priyanka Gandhi recommended for UP leadership

The Congress has decided to field Priyanka Gandhi Wadra as UP Chief Minister candidate in the next year's assembly elections to come back to power. This was decided by Prashant Kishore, the man who builds personalities. Just in case Priyanka is not agreeable to the proposal, Prashant Kishore's plan is to rope in a Brahmin as the chief ministerial candidate of the Congress in UP, with the campaign responsibility being given to party vice-president Rahul Gandhi. While the Congress once upon a time used to bank on UP to come to power both in the State and the Centre today finds itself in an unenviable position of not finding candidates for the various constituencies in the State. In the last general elections, except for the traditional Nehru-Gandhi constituencies of Amethi and Rae Bareilly, the party had not been able to win a single MP seat in the State. While the Congress wants to enter the next assembly elections with new leadership, it remains to be seen how it will fare against the established parties of Mulayam Singh's Samajwadi Party and Mayawati's Bahujan Samaj Party. In any case the Congress will await the results in the present assembly elections in five States to decide on its course of action in UP next year. The grand old party has to take lessons from the election whizkid Prasant Kishore who is credited with making Prime Minister out of Narendra Modi and helping Nitish Kumar's re-election as Bihar Chief Minister.
