Tension at Macherla as police reject Jagan's anti-drought stir

Tension is brewing in Macherla town of Guntur district where the YCP was to take up a dharna programme to protest against the government indifference to the drought conditions prevailing in Andhra Pradesh. The YCP leader, YS Jaganmohan Redy, was coming to Macherla to take part in the programme on Monday. Even as Jagan was coming for the Macherla meeting from Hyderabad, the police announced that there was no official sanction for the programme. This had shocked the YCP local leaders. The YCP leaders decided to stage the dharna anyway in defiance of the police orders. The police in anticipation of trouble are pressing in more companies to the area. Even in the neighbouring Ongole town in Prakasam district, the police had already removed the tents put up for camping YCP workers who would be staging dharna there.
