KVP introduces Bill for Special Status for AP

Congress MP KVP Ramachandra Rao urged the Centre in the Rajya Sabha on Friday that Andhra Pradesh should be declared as a Special Category State and till the financial poistion of the state was stabilized Rs 10,000 crore should be given per year as special funds. Presenting a private bill in the House, KVP demanded that all the provisions made in the AP Reorginsation Act should be given Constitutional Sanctity. Twenty of the provisions should converted into law. AP should be given special status on a par with Bundelkhand, Bolangir, Kalhandi for the Rayalaseema districts. North Coastal districts should be given special package. Funds should be given in full so the Polavaram project is completed in time. KVP demanded a State High Court for Andhra pradesh in quicker time. The Rajya Sabha debate on the Bill had, however, petered out owing to lack of quorum. The House was adjourned to meet again on Monday.
