Gold coins found in farmer's field in Anantpur

Historic gold coins have been found in a farmer's field at Upparpalli, which is not far as the crow flies from the district headquarters of Ananpur. The sudden wealth of the farmer in the parched Anantpur spread like a wildfire and people from all over began to flock to the village looking for gold coins of antiquity. So far 20 gold coins were found in the field, as stated officially. Rumours had it that the people were selling the gold coins at the rate of Rs 3000 to Rs 3500 per coin. As the news spread, the officials moved into the area and cordoned it off so no more gold diggers would flock there. The area had importance in the Krishnadevaraya times. The Vijayanagara empire flourished in the area, and many romantic films have been made from popular legends of the area.
