Kohinoor can't be brought back, Centre tells SC

The famed Kohinoor diamond, mined in India millennia ago, cannot be brought back from the British Crown, the Central government told the Supreme Court on Monday. The Centre also clarified that the diamond had not been subjected to theft. The Centre clarified that Kohinoor diamond was given as a gift to the British East India Company that paved the way for Britain to rule India. It was given as gift by the then rulers in India. So it cannot be brought back to India. A petition filed in the Supreme Court argued that the Kohinoor belonged to India and that the diamond should be brought back to India. The Central government pointed out that the diamond given as a gift by the then rulers cannot be restored to India. Historical facts prove that what was called Kohinoor was actually Samantakamani that cast shadow on Lord Krishna in the Mahabharata times.
