Non-locals want NIT Srinagar shifted out of valley

The National Institute of Technology, Srinagar, students on Saturday demanded that the institute be shifted from Kashmir to the Jammu region. for the safety of the non-locals. The students have been subjected to severe beating by the police who moved in when the local students clashed with the outstation students. They alleged that there was not much safety to the Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal singh when he visited the NIT campus, so there was no question of safety for the 2000 outstation students who were studying there. While the non-locals have been agitating in the extreme cold of Kashmir, the orgnisers of institution appeared indifferent. The police curbs on outstation students at NIT Srinagar were continuing. They have seized the Tricolour of the outstation students which they have been sporting during the agitations. Demanding Azadi, the local students want outstation students to be in chains.
