Clear all dues of Andhra power men working with you, SC tells TS government

The Supreme Court on Friday directed the Telangana State government to pay the salaries of some 1250 employees with Andhra region origin who are working for its Electricity Board. Following the split of the combined Andhra Pradesh, the Telangana government removed employees with Andhra origin and stopped payment of salaries of employees it was forced to keep to run the services. The new Andhra government, too, refused to enlist the services of the employees despite their Andhra origin. The affected employees had to resort to the courts to decide their fate. The Andhra Pradesh High Court evolved the 58:42 formula and told the two State governments to pay the salaries in the ratio. The employees were not satisfied with the formula and moved the Supreme court. They appealed to the Apex Court, urging it that whichever government they were employed with should pay their salaries. The court went into the matter and decided that since the employees were now employed with the Telangana government, it should pay their salaries. The case had been going on for the past 18 months. Under the Supreme Court ruling, the government under which an employee was working should pay their salaries. Without having the basic understanding, how are you running a government, Supreme Court asked Telangana counsel. Second, how can you utilize an employee's service and ask the other government to pay the salary, the court wondered. Clear all the employees dues immediately, the Supreme Court told the Telangana government.
