Recall VC Apparao, say left leaders

The Left parties are continuing their agitation for the recall of Hyderabad Central University Vice-Chancellor Podile Apparao, by taking out a rally from Khairatabad to Raj Bahvan on Monday. They were stopped midway, and the left leaders got into arguments with the police, creating some tension in the area. As a result, K. Narayana (CPI) and some other left leaders were taken into custody. The university students wants the Vice-Chancellor sacked in connection with the Rohith Vemula suicide. The Vice-Chancellor, who went on leave for 2 months, brought violence back to the university on his resumption of duty recently. The students went on the rampage, destroying furniture, forcing the police to enter the university. The Vice-Chancellor also reported that he needed police protection. With the police entering the university, the students were chased to end the violence after running battles between them. Outsiders had since been barred from entering the university. Among them was Jawaharlal Nehru University Students Union president Kanhaiya Kumar who came all the way from Delhi to attend a Rohith Vemula condolence meeting. With so much happening in and around the university, it is not known whether the students would keep their academic year or not.
