POTA Court in Mumbai to serve sentence on 10 terror acts acccused today

The Prevention of Terrorism Act court in Mumbai on Tuesday found 10 accused guilty in the bomb blasts in the metropolis between December 2002 and March 2003. The 10 accused have been convicted under various sections of the POTA, Arms Act, the Explosive Substances Act and the Railways Act. The court will award the sentences to the accused on Wednesday. Special Jusge PR Deshmukh acquitted three persons in the case. The blasts occurred at McDonald restaurant near Mumbai Central railway station, in a crowded market at Vile Parle and at Mulund raiwlay station, killing in all 12 people and injuring 27 others. Mumbai had been coming under terror attacks since the 90s. The first was serial bomb blasts aimed at breaking the commercial backbone of the city, killing some 300 people in various parts of the city. That was considered the greatest terrorist act in the world at that time. It was masterminded by the Memon brothers. Yakub Memon was the last to flee the city after burning all family records. He came back to be jailed, convicted and hung. He became a hero for the Hyderabad Central University students.
